Sea Scout Open House August 9

We are pleased to announce an open house for interested sailors and their parents on Weds., August 9th from 4-7pm. Come and learn about the exiting, new Sea Scout opportunity coming soon to Yellow Creek State Park. Young people between ages 10 and 20 are eligible to get involved. You will have the chance to see our boats, talk to marine and sailing experts, and meet other Scouts interested in signing up.

Community Sailing – Windy Wednesdays – Summer 2023

Friends, enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.  Community sailing begins this Wednesday and every Wednesday through Labor Day, at 4pm.  Our volunteer instructors will help novices or those who need to brush up their sailing skills earn their US Sailing certification. Experienced sailors can “check-off” their skills and gain full access to the FOYC fleet.

In addition to sailing, members can access four Stand-Up Paddle Boards and three kayaks.

Sailing Season 2023

Sailing season for 2023 is beginning soon. Volunteer have already been busy installing docks and rigging the first sailboats. IUP sailors will be going on the water in the next week or two. Have you joined the sailing base for 2023?

Community sailing gives you access to 4 stand-up paddle boards, 3 kayaks, and a half-dozen sailboats, ranging from the simple Sunfish to the large, stable Flying Scot. Qualified skippers can get checked out on the boat and enjoy unlimited sailing through-out the season. Novices can work towards US Sailing Certification by joining club members, volunteers and an instructor for Windy Wednesday community sailing beginning after Labor Day.

Mountain Bike Race Series – 2023

We’re all set for our 14th year of mountain bike racing at Yellow Creek!  We welcome riders of all skill levels with three different course lengths.  Come out for a little competition and experience the pristine beauty of our state park by bike!  Visit the race page for more information including registration links.

Litter Cleanup – Volunteers Sought – Sat Nov 12

FOYC members are invited to participate in a litter clean up day! We are part of the Adopt-a -Highway program and are responsible for a section of 422 near the park. Join a group of IUP students who have signed up to help. Safety signs, vests and gloves are provided to us by PennDOT. Coy’s pizza will be provided as a treat when we are done!

We will meet Saturday, Nov 12 at 11:00 AM in  the Environmental Learning Center at Yellow Creek State Park. (Turn off route 422 at the main park entrance, continue past the park office, and look for the building on the left as the main lake comes into view. )

2022 Race Schedule Announced – YC Monthly – 2022

Our races began as a way to introduce more folks to the cross country trail system that circumnavigates Yellow Creek Lake and also as a vehicle to raise funds and increase membership for Friends of Yellow Creek.  We continue the race for those same reasons.  All proceeds go toward FoYC memberships and payouts.
